What is Name Analysis by the Five Grids?
Name Analysis reads a name from the stroke count of its characters, divided into five grids: Heaven, Human, Earth, Outer and Total. Each grid corresponds to a number and to one of the Five Phases. Checking each grid against the table of 81 stroke numbers, and weighing how the Three Powers of Heaven, Human and Earth generate or control one another, shows where a name is strong and where it is weak.
The five grids and what they mean
The Heaven Grid is the root, corresponding to the fortune of the parents, and bears little direct influence. The Human Grid governs the whole, the centre of a life, and is the most important. The Earth Grid is the early fortune, before the age of thirty-eight. The Outer Grid is the secondary fortune, covering relationships and the world outside. The Total Grid is the later fortune, from thirty-eight onwards.
How strokes are counted for a Vietnamese name
Because Vietnamese names are written in the Latin alphabet, this tool uses the Latin script method. Each letter carries a value on a cycle from one to nine; the values of the letters in a syllable are added and reduced to a single digit, which is then used as the stroke number of that syllable.
Frequently asked questions
Does an unfavourable name need to be changed?
Not necessarily on official documents. Where several grids of a name fall on unfavourable numbers, the balance can be restored with a home name, a pen name, a brand name or a foreign name that carries favourable numbers.
What should be considered when naming a child?
Aim for the Human Grid and the Total Grid to fall on numbers that cannot fail, and for the Three Powers to generate or at least harmonise with one another. The name should also sound well and mean something fine. The tool lets you try several options before deciding.
Can it be used for a brand name?
Yes. Enter the brand name and the Five Grids are calculated just as for a person's name. Aim for the Total Grid and the Human Grid to fall on favourable numbers so that the brand grows smoothly.
