What is the Ancient School of Dương Công?

The Ancient School of Dương Công (楊公古派) is the oldest and most orthodox school of Feng Shui, founded by the Great Patriarch Dương Quân Tùng 楊筠松 in the Tang dynasty (834 to 906). It joins Loan Đầu 巒頭, the form of mountain and water, with Lý Khí 理氣, the calculation of direction, in fine balance.

How do Loan Đầu and Lý Khí differ?

Loan Đầu 巒頭 accounts for 70 per cent of the effect and judges Feng Shui by the natural forms of mountain, river and land. Lý Khí 理氣 accounts for 30 per cent and uses the Luo Pan 羅盤 to calculate direction and the water method exactly.

What is distinctive about the Dương Công Luo Pan?

The Dương Công 楊公 Luo Pan 羅盤 uses three rings, the Earth Ring 地盤, the Human Ring 人盤 and the Heaven Ring 天盤, each offset by 7.5°, serving three purposes: setting the facing, measuring the sand, and receiving the water. This is peculiar to the Ancient School of Dương Công.
