What is the Living Feng Shui 風水 Dossier?

This is a Feng Shui dossier drawn up once for a house; the system remembers its sitting and facing, its period, the plan of its rooms and the Ming Gua 命卦 of each member. Each year, as the Flying Stars 飛星 change at the Beginning of Spring 立春, the dossier updates the good and ill palaces by itself, generates a list of remedial tasks, and reminds the householder at the right time.

How does this dossier differ from the free feng shui 風水 health check?

The free tool measures once and is done. The Living Feng Shui Dossier is a long-term medical record: it keeps the whole structure of the house, follows it through each year of the Flying Stars 飛星, assigns remedial tasks by stage, marks progress and completion, and sends reminders by email.

How are the annual flying stars 流年飛星 in the dossier updated?

The annual flying stars change at the solar term of the Beginning of Spring 立春, not at Tết. The system works out the exact moment of the Beginning of Spring 立春 for each year, and at that moment the nine-palace 九宮 grid of the dossier turns to the new stars: where the Ngũ Hoàng 五黃 flies to and which palace the wealth star sits in both show plainly on your own dossier.

Can this dossier take the place of inviting the Master to survey the house in person?

Not entirely. The Lý Khí 理氣 side can be calculated by algorithm, but the side of form must be seen by standing on the land itself. The dossier is a very good first sieve, and where a serious configuration appears there is a button within it to invite Master Ung Khiem to assess it in person.

Draw Up a New Dossier

Five steps, about ten minutes. Have ready the facing of the house measured in degrees and the years of birth of the household.

The Xuan Kong 玄空 Period is worked out from the year of moving in; if left blank, the year built is used.

Facing of the house (compass degrees, 0 to 360)

Stand in the middle of the main door looking outwards and read the degrees on the compass. Keep well away from metal while measuring. If you have no separate compass, use one of the two methods beside this.

Stand in the middle of the main door, your back to the house and your face outwards, hold the phone level in front of your chest, then press Fix the facing.

A phone compass can be thrown off by magnetic interference; the most accurate reading is still one taken with a Luo Pan 羅經.

The first person is the head of the household, and must be entered. Each person's Ming Gua 命卦 appears just below their line.

Stand at the centre of the house and use a compass to establish which direction each area lies in, then assign it to the matching box. For bedrooms, studies and children's rooms it is best to name the person who uses the room as well.

A tip: the main door usually lies in the same direction as the facing measured in step 2.

Mark the Hình Sát 形煞 that the property meets. If you are unsure, leave it, as it may be added later.
