There is an old saying, "First the day, second the hour, third the direction", meaning that choosing the right moment matters more even than direction and feng shui. A good day makes a beginning go smoothly, avoids the inauspicious stars and receives the auspicious Qi.
Every person has their own Four Pillars 八字 chart, so a day good for one may clash with another. Orthodox Trạch Nhật 擇日 does not merely read the day in general from a perpetual calendar; it must also rest on the householder's year, the facing of the house and the nature of the undertaking in order to choose the day that suits best.
