The most important Li Qi 理氣 system in classical feng shui, built on the interaction of time and space
Flying Star Feng Shui (玄空飛星, Xuan Kong Fei Xing) is a major Li Qi 理氣 system in classical Chinese feng shui, one of the Xuan Kong 玄空 methods. It reads a site through the interaction of TIME (the Qi of the Period) and SPACE (direction), to determine what is auspicious and what is inauspicious for a house, a building or a plot of land.
The Qi of heaven and earth is never fixed. It circulates through time and space, and whether a house is auspicious or inauspicious depends on whether that house "receives" Prosperous Qi 旺氣 or has to bear Declining Qi 衰氣.
The theory traces back to the master Yang Yun Song 楊筠松 (楊筠松) of the Tang dynasty, in the 9th century. It was systematised by Jiang Da Hong 蔣大鴻 (蔣大鴻) of the Qing dynasty in his work Địa Lý Biện Chính 地理辨正, Rectifying the Principles of Geomancy.

The star chart is the "energy map" of a house, cast in three main steps
Establish the year of construction to find which Period the house belongs to, Period 1 through 9. Place the Period number in the Central Palace 中宮 and fly the stars forward in Luo Shu 洛書 order.
Use a compass to establish the facing of the front of the house. Take the Period Chart number in the facing palace and place it in the Central Palace 中宮. Determine forward or reverse flight by the Three Cycles Dragon 三元龍.
Take the Period Chart number in the sitting palace, at the back of the house, and place it in the Central Palace 中宮. Fly the stars forward or in reverse by the same rule.
