One House, Five Layers of Examination

The Master reads a Yang Dwelling 陽宅 from the outside in, from the form to the Qi. "Loan Đầu 巒頭 is the substance, Lý Khí 理氣 is the function": get the form right first, and only then does the Li Qi 理氣 take effect.

Form School 巒頭

The lie of the land, the Four Guardians 四靈, the Bright Hall 明堂, and the Hình Sát 形煞 outside.

Shape

The shape of the plot and of the house: square, widening at the back, or missing a corner.

Dimensions

The Lỗ Ban rule 魯班尺 for doors and rooms, and Sinh Lão Bệnh Tử 生老病死 for the steps.

Matching facing to Period: Eight Mansions 八宅, Flying Star 飛星, the Great Trigram 大卦, Dương Công 楊公.

📌 A note on using the library

  • Each model house meets the standard under a clear set of assumptions : the kind of house, the facing, the Period and a representative Ming Gua 命卦. Change the assumptions and what is auspicious may change with them.
  • Every judgement of auspicious or inauspicious states plainly which school it follows. Where the schools differ, read them side by side and do not conclude in haste.
  • The plans and figures are illustrative and for reference, and do not replace surveying the land and measuring the facing of an actual building.

The model houses above show what a Yang Dwelling 陽宅 that meets the standard looks like. But every householder has their own Ming Gua 命卦, and every house its own facing and its own Period.
