Bốn chỉ số vân tay: TFRC, PII, Dankmeijer, Furuhata, tính thế nào và dùng để làm gìFour fingerprint indices: TFRC, PII, Dankmeijer and Furuhata, how they are computed and what they are for

Hồ sơ đo trong cuốn luận Sinh Trắc Tam Tướng ghi năm chỉ số. Bài này lấy bốn chỉ số của vân đầu ngón, dẫn công thức từ các nghiên cứu vân da học, tính thử trên một bộ mười ngón tự đặt, rồi đặt cạnh số liệu thật của mười một nhóm dân cư.The measurement file of the Three Readings book records five indices. This piece takes the four that come from fingertip patterns, gives the formulas from dermatoglyphic research, works them out on a made up ten finger set, and sets them beside real data from eleven populations.

Cả bốn là số đo thật, dùng để so sánh các nhóm dân cư và nghiên cứu di truyền, không dùng để đoán năng khiếu của một người.TFRC is the total ridge count of the ten fingertips, with arches scored 0 and whorls taking the larger of their two counts. The PII is the total number of deltas, from 0 to 20. The Dankmeijer index is arches over whorls, the Furuhata index whorls over loops, both times 100. All four are real measurements used to compare populations and in genetics, not to judge one person's talent.

Năm chỉ số trong hồ sơ đoThe five indices in the measurement file

The Three Readings page lists what the measurement file of the book holds: the ten finger map, each finger's pattern and ridge count, the hand flower count, and five indices: TFRC, the PII (pattern intensity index), the Dankmeijer index, the Furuhata index and the atd angle. The first four come from the fingertips and are the subject of this piece. The atd angle is measured on the palm and has its own article.

Every formula here was checked the same simple way: take the arch, loop and whorl percentages printed in the paper itself, recompute, and see whether the authors' published figure comes out. That check caught two misprints in the sources, noted in the PII and Furuhata sections below.

TFRC stands for total finger ridge count. Each finger is counted by drawing a straight line from the delta to the core and counting the ridges that cross or touch it. A teaching module from the Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi, states that the core and the delta themselves are not counted.

Counting ridges on a loop: the dashed line joins delta and core, each red dot is a ridge that crosses it. Drawing from the Three Readings page.

Two conventions make up the total. An arch has no true delta, so its count is 0. A whorl has two deltas and so two counts, and by the rule Holt set down in 1968 the larger one is used. The ten numbers added together give the TFRC.

Medland and colleagues (PLoS Genetics, 2007) describe ridge count as an index of the size of the fingerprint pattern, used as a model trait for human quantitative genetics for over eighty years. The same paper reports that genetic effects account for 90 to 95% of the variation in these measures.

The textbook Human Genes and Genomes (2012) gives the classic figures: TFRC correlates at 0.95 between identical twins and only 0.05 between spouses, and across a population individual counts follow a bell curve. TFRC therefore says a lot about genes and families, and nothing supports using one person's count to speak about their learning or career.

Yohannes and Bekele (PLoS ONE, 2015) define the pattern intensity of a finger as its number of deltas: loops and tented arches have one, plain whorls, double loops and central pocket whorls two, accidentals up to three. A person's PII is the sum over the fingers. For a set of plain arches, loops and whorls it runs from 0 to 20, matching the Three Readings page: the total number of deltas on ten fingers, maximum 20.

For a whole group, studies use percentages: PII equals twice the whorl percentage plus the loop percentage, divided by 10. The paper by Wijerathne and colleagues (2013) on the Sinhalese prints the formula with a divisor of 2, but recomputing from its own data (36.54% whorls, 58.53% loops in men) only the divisor 10 gives the published 13.16. The Ethiopian table of Yohannes and Bekele also matches the divisor 10.

In meaning, the PII tells whether a group's prints lean toward simple or complex patterns: many whorls push it up, many arches pull it down.

Chỉ số Dankmeijer và chỉ số FuruhataThe Dankmeijer and Furuhata indices

These two are ratios between pattern groups, named after the researchers who proposed them. According to Wijerathne and colleagues, the Dankmeijer index (1938) is the arch percentage over the whorl percentage, times 100, and the Furuhata index (1927) is the whorl percentage over the loop percentage, times 100. Dankmeijer rises when arches are common relative to whorls, Furuhata when whorls are common relative to loops.

Set A: Dankmeijer is 1 arch over 4 whorls times 100, giving 25. Furuhata is 4 whorls over 5 loops times 100, giving 80. For one person, finger counts and finger percentages give the same result.

Yohannes and Bekele describe Furuhata in words as loops over whorls, but the figures in their own table only match whorls over loops: the Oromo have 54.33% whorls and 41.44% loops, and the published Furuhata index is 131.09. This piece follows the formula confirmed by the numbers.

Bốn chỉ số trên một bộ, và hai bộ đặt cạnh nhauFour indices on one set, and two sets side by side

Put together, set A has a TFRC of 126, a PII of 13, a Dankmeijer of 25 and a Furuhata of 80. The four numbers look at the same prints from four sides: pattern size, complexity, the lean toward arches, the lean toward whorls.

Set B is also made up, with more loops: 7 loops, 2 arches and just 1 whorl. Its TFRC drops to 88 and its PII to 9, Furuhata falls to 14.3, while Dankmeijer jumps to 200 because there are twice as many arches as whorls.

A single finger changing type moves one person's Dankmeijer and Furuhata a great deal, because the denominator is only a few fingers. That is why these two ratio indices were built for the percentages of a whole group, as the next section shows.

The three studies below measured several populations and published the full set of indices. Yohannes and Bekele measured 382 people from five Ethiopian ethnic groups. Wijerathne and colleagues measured 434 Sinhalese in Sri Lanka, 217 men and 217 women. Baryah and Krishan measured the Rajput and Brahmin communities of North India.

The five Ethiopian groups combine both sexes, the others are split by sex. Data from Yohannes and Bekele 2015, Wijerathne et al. 2013, Baryah and Krishan 2020.

The differences between groups are clear. The Oromo have 54.33% whorls, so their Furuhata reaches 131.09, while the Amhara of the same country stand at 41.74. The Berta have 18.68% arches, so their Dankmeijer climbs to 73.84, several times the other groups. Among the Sinhalese, the authors found every index higher in men than in women, and their patterns somewhat similar to North Indians and other Caucasoid populations.

Yohannes and Bekele conclude that dermatoglyphic markers have strong potential as non invasive preliminary tools, applied before genetic studies, to analyse ethnically subdivided populations. Baryah and Krishan used the indices to look at sex and ethnic variation, and concluded that these features serve ancestry identification, not individual identification.

Placing a group index beside one person's shows why. The percentages of several hundred people barely move when a few are added or removed. One person has only ten fingers: turn one loop of set A into a whorl and its Furuhata leaps from 80 to 125. For someone with no whorl at all, Dankmeijer divides by zero and cannot be computed.

Không dùng chỉ số vân tay để chấm năng khiếuFingerprint indices do not score talent

The studies cited here use the indices to compare populations and the sexes, and in genetics. None of them uses TFRC or PII to measure a person's intelligence or talent. The article do fingerprint tests work looks closely at fingerprint talent tests.

Năm 2016, báo Dân trí đăng bài với nhan đề: dịch vụ sinh trắc vân tay không thể chẩn đoán được năng lực trí tuệ. Trong bài, GS.TS Lê Đình Lương, Chủ tịch Hội Di truyền học Việt Nam, nói kể cả phân tích ADN cũng chưa thể chẩn đoán được năng lực trí tuệ.

In 2016 the newspaper Dân trí ran an article titled: fingerprint services cannot diagnose intellectual ability. In it Professor Lê Đình Lương, chairman of the Vietnam Genetics Society, said that even DNA analysis cannot yet diagnose intellectual ability.

Thầy Ưng Khiêm dùng năm chỉ số thế nàoHow Master Ung Khiem uses the five indices

The Three Readings page puts it plainly: the measurements are real data of dermatoglyphics, used in forensics and genetics, while science does not accept that fingerprints predict intelligence or innate talent, and the Master does not sell that.

Right, the reading in classical physiognomy, always labelled as interpretation.
Con số để biết mình đứng ở đâu, không để phánNumbers to locate yourself, not to pass judgement

The counting in the book is real data: each finger's pattern, ridge counts, the five indices, the atd angle. The reading of character is classical physiognomy, reading the inborn nature by the dou ji method, left hand weighed against right, for reflection and self understanding. The two are written apart so you always know which sentence is measured and which is interpreted.

The Master records the five indices so you have standard numbers to set beside the population tables in the literature and see where you stand. He never takes a TFRC or Furuhata figure and turns it into a verdict on anyone's character, talent or path in life.

Hỏi đápQuestions

Chỉ số TFRC là gì?What is TFRC?

The total ridge count of the ten fingertips. Each finger counts the ridges crossing the line from delta to core, arches score 0, and whorls take the larger of their two counts.

Does a high TFRC mean higher intelligence?

No. TFRC measures pattern size and is mostly set by genes. Research uses it in genetics and population comparison, not to measure one person's intellect.

PII tính thế nào?How is the PII computed?

For one person, add the deltas of the ten fingers: arch 0, loop 1, whorl 2, so the PII runs from 0 to 20. For a group, take twice the whorl percentage plus the loop percentage, divided by 10.

Chỉ số Dankmeijer và chỉ số Furuhata khác nhau thế nào?How do the Dankmeijer and Furuhata indices differ?

Dankmeijer is the arch percentage over the whorl percentage, Furuhata the whorl percentage over the loop percentage, both times 100. Arch rich groups have a high Dankmeijer, whorl rich groups a high Furuhata.

Why not use these indices to read one person?

Because they were built for group percentages. One person has only ten fingers: one finger changing can move Furuhata from 80 to 125, and with no whorl Dankmeijer cannot be computed.

Does the Three Readings book record these indices?

Yes. The measurement file records five indices: TFRC, PII, Dankmeijer, Furuhata and the atd angle. They belong to the measured part, written apart from the classical reading.
