Nhà thờ mẹ của Giáo phận Bissau, dâng kính Đức Mẹ Nến (Nossa Senhora da Candelária), xây từ năm 1945 tới 1950 theo thiết kế của hai kiến trúc sư Bồ Đào Nha João Simões và Galhardo Zilhão trên chỗ một nhà thờ năm 1935. Công trình theo lối tân Roman giản lược với hai tháp đối xứng, tháp phía bắc mang một ngọn đèn biển xanh lục ở độ cao 36 mét dẫn tàu từ cửa sông Geba vào bến Bissau. Giáo hoàng Gioan Phaolô II tới đây ngày 27 tháng 1 năm 1990.
