Thánh đường kiêm trường học giữa medina cổ Fès, bà Fatima al-Fihri gốc Kairouan lập năm 857 tới 859, được coi là cơ sở giáo dục bậc cao hoạt động liên tục lâu đời nhất thế giới. Qua các triều mở rộng, thánh đường thành một trong những thánh đường lớn nhất châu Phi, sức chứa khoảng 22.000 người, nằm trong Di sản Thế giới UNESCO Medina Fès năm 1981.
