Đền thánh hành hương lớn nhất Trung Mỹ, giữ tượng Chúa Kitô chịu đóng đinh bằng gỗ sẫm do Quirio Cataño tạc năm 1594, sắc đen dần qua khói nến và hương. Vương cung thánh đường Baroque trắng dựng từ năm 1740, xong năm 1759, là nhà thờ chính tòa của Giám hạt tòng thổ Esquipulas, lễ chính mỗi năm vào ngày 15 tháng 1.
