Tu viện Chính Thống lớn nhất Bulgaria giữa núi Rila, do thánh Gioan thành Rila (Ivan Rilski) lập vào thế kỷ 10, từ thế kỷ 11 tới 14 là trung tâm ảnh hưởng tinh thần và nghệ thuật của thế giới Chính Thống phương Đông. Tháp Hrelyo năm 1334 tới 1335 còn nguyên, các cánh nhà và nhà thờ chính dựng lại từ năm 1834 là mẫu tiêu biểu thời Phục Hưng Bulgaria, thành Di sản Thế giới UNESCO năm 1983.
