Step-by-step ceremonial sequence before the altar

For the God of Wealth Festival on the 10th Day of the First Lunar Month in the Dinh Mui Year (Monday, February 15, 2027, an At Suu Metal Day governed by the Open Officer), complete shrine purification the day before and hold the prayer during a morning Auspicious Hour.

  1. Step 1
Bathe the statues and cleanse the shrine on the 9th of the 1st Month (Feb 14, 2027)

On Sunday, February 14, 2027 (9th of the 1st Lunar Month, Giap Ty Day, Open Officer), simmer warm pomelo-leaf water or infuse fresh ginger in clear rice wine, wipe the shrine and statues with a brand-new towel, trim excess incense stems, and refresh the three jars of rice, salt and water.

  2. Step 2
Arrange fresh offerings and set gold or savings on a red plate before the censer

Early on Monday morning, February 15, 2027, arrange East-Vase flowers on the right, West-Fruit on the left, 5 fresh water cups in a cross, the Bright-Hall petal bowl, the Three-Realm Trio, roast pork, grilled fish (or vegetarian sweet tray), and your gold emblem on a red-lined dish.

  3. Step 3
Select a prime morning Auspicious Hour on At Suu Day (Dan, Mao or Ti)

Begin the rite during one of the three golden morning windows on Feb 15, 2027: Dan Hour (03:00 to 05:00), Mao Hour (05:00 to 07:00) or Ti Hour (09:00 to 11:00). Afternoon alternative: Than Hour (15:00 to 17:00).

  4. Step 4
Kindle shrine lamps, light 5 incense sticks and recite the Festival Prayer

Dress neatly, switch on the shrine lamps, light 5 fragrant incense sticks, bow three times, and read aloud Variant 1 (for shops and companies), Variant 2 (when consecrating gold for the safe) or Variant 3 (for households).

  5. Step 5
Burn the scroll safely and place the consecrated gold inside your safe vault

When two-thirds of the incense has burned, bow three times, burn the A4 petition scroll safely inside a covered metal burner, sprinkle a drop of rice wine, and reverently carry the consecrated gold plate to lock inside your family or corporate safe.

  6. Step 6
Share the blessed feast within the household or company team

Lower the savory and sweet offerings for family members or company staff to enjoy together; by traditional custom, food from the God of Wealth Festival is shared within the household or firm so the blessing remains gathered indoors.

IVLegend of the Tenth Day of the First Lunar Month & The Five-Road Deities of Wealth

In Vietnamese folk religion and East Asian commercial culture, while the first three days of Tet are devoted to Ancestors and lineage reunions, the Tenth Day of the First Lunar Month marks the premier spiritual milestone launching the new year of enterprise, craftsmanship and financial stewardship: the Festival of the God of Wealth (Ngay Via Than Tai).

According to the historical record

According to beloved folk legend, the Celestial God of Wealth once drank merrily at a heavenly banquet and accidentally fell to the mortal world, striking his head against a rock so that he forgot his heavenly identity while passersby took his brocade robes. Wandering as a humble beggar, he was welcomed into a kind shopkeeper's inn for a warm meal; miraculously, the moment he stepped across the threshold and ate, customers poured into the shop in an unending stream. On the tenth morning of the First Lunar Month, as morning mist cleared, the deity recovered his memory and ascended back to Heaven on auspicious clouds. Ever since, merchants and households have celebrated the 10th of the 1st Lunar Month as the Annual Return Day of the God of Wealth.

According to the tradition

In classical liturgical manuals and Daoist canons such as the Inquiries into the Sacred (Suu Than Ky), the God of Wealth invoked in formal scrolls encompasses the Five-Road Deities of Wealth (Ngu Lo Tai Than) governing the East, West, South, North and Center. Presiding at the center is Supreme Marshal Zhao Gongming of the Orthodox Black Altar, an upright guardian who rewards fair trade and shields merchants from deceit. Accompanying him are four directional attendants: Celestial Lord Inviting Treasure (Xiao Sheng) in the East, Celestial Lord Gathering Gems (Cao Bao) in the West, Envoy Calling Wealth (Chen Jiugong) in the South, and Immortal Officer of Favorable Markets (Yao Shaosi) in the North. In Vietnam, this celestial pantheon merges seamlessly with the indigenous veneration of the Local Earth Deity of Righteous Blessing (Ong Dia) and the Former and Subsequent Proprietors of the Land, forming the warm, floor-level twin shrine found in millions of Vietnamese homes and shops.

VSymbolism of the Three-Realm Trio (Tam Sen), Whole Grilled Snakehead Fish & Roast Pork

Every dish arranged before the floor shrine on the Tenth Day of the First Lunar Month encodes a classical cosmology of Heaven, Earth and Water alongside historical gratitude to the pioneers who opened the land.

VIPrime Auspicious Hours for the God of Wealth Festival in Dinh Mui 2027 (Monday, Feb 15, 2027)

According to the tradition

By astronomical calculation for Vietnam Standard Time (UTC+7), the 10th Day of the First Lunar Month in the Dinh Mui Year falls on Monday, February 15, 2027. In the classical Sexagenary calendar, this date is an exceptionally favorable At Suu Day whose Melodic Element is Gold in the Sea (Hai Trung Kim), governed by the Open Officer (Truc Khai) within the First Lunar Month of Nham Dan. Because a Metal-Gold day under the Open Officer naturally resonates with the God of Wealth and gold accumulation, February 15, 2027 is an ideal day for both commercial and household rites. On this At Suu Day, the Direction of the God of Wealth is Southeast and the Direction of the Joy Spirit is Northwest.

1. Mao Hour (05:00 to 07:00 AM) · Jade Hall Auspicious Hour (Premier Morning Window)

Ky Mao Hour is governed by the Jade Hall Star as dawn breaks and pure solar Yang Qi rises. Performing the prayer during Mao Hour allows shops, enterprises and families to welcome the very first wave of morning vitality before opening doors for business.

2. Ti Hour (09:00 to 11:00 AM) · Life-Guardian Auspicious Hour (Three-Harmony Metal Frame)

Tan Ti Hour is governed by the Life-Guardian Star; furthermore, the Ti (Snake) branch combines with the day's Suu (Ox) branch to form a Semi-Trine of the Metal Element (Ti-Dau-Suu Metal frame), making 09:00 to 11:00 AM the most potent window for consecrating gold into your safe.

3. Dan Hour (03:00 to 05:00 AM) · Golden Coffer Auspicious Hour (For Early Markets & Bakeries)

Mau Dan Hour is governed by the Golden Coffer Star, suited to wholesale markets, restaurants and early-rising households who wish to complete the rite in quiet dawn stillness.

4. Than Hour (15:00 to 17:00 PM) · Green Dragon Auspicious Hour (Afternoon Option)

Giap Than Hour is governed by the Green Dragon Star, providing an excellent afternoon window for office professionals who cannot perform the ceremony in the morning.

VIIShrine Cleansing Protocol on the 9th Day and How to Consecrate Gold on the Altar

To ensure the shrine gleams with purity on festival morning, households perform the Sacred Bathing and Cleansing Rite on the 9th Day of the First Lunar Month (Sunday, February 14, 2027, a Giap Ty Day also governed by the Open Officer). Light 3 incense sticks to ask the God of Wealth and Earth Deity to step aside briefly; once the incense finishes, use a brand-new soft towel dipped in warm pomelo-leaf infusion or crushed ginger in clear rice spirit to bathe the two ceramic statues and wipe the wooden cabinet. Buff dry completely and return the statues to their exact seats: looking into the shrine from outside, the God of Wealth sits on the left and the Earth Deity sits on the right.

According to the historical record

For the Gold-Vault Consecration Rite (An Vi Vang Tich Loc) on the morning of the 10th: whether you purchase a new plain gold ring, a coin-embossed ring, a small gold bar, or bring out existing family gold savings (or a crisp red envelope containing lucky-serial banknotes), place the item on a clean porcelain dish lined with red paper directly in front of the central incense bowl before lighting the 5 incense sticks. Recite Variant 2 on this page to ask the Deities of Wealth to bless the gold as your Treasury Seed (Moi Loc) for the year. Wait until the incense burns out completely, bow three times in thanksgiving, and carry the consecrated gold straight into your home or corporate safe vault.

VIIIFive Common Mistakes to Avoid and the Ethics of Sustainable Prosperity

A common misunderstanding

Mistake 1: Borrowing money or panic-buying overpriced gold out of crowd anxiety. The authentic folk tradition of acquiring gold on the 10th of the 1st Month celebrates converting surplus earnings from hard work into disciplined long-term savings. Never go into debt to buy gold for show; placing a neat red envelope holding fresh banknotes from your honest income or a savings certificate on the red plate before the shrine carries the exact same spiritual sincerity.

Mistake 2: Reversing the left-right positions of the God of Wealth and Earth Deity after washing. Many people accidentally swap the statues after bathing them on the 9th. Always check from the officiant's view looking into the shrine: God of Wealth on the left, Earth Deity on the right.

Mistake 3: Leaving the floor shrine damp, cluttered with shoes or disturbed by household pets. Because the shrine rests on the ground floor, keep shoes, brooms and trash bins well away from its Bright Hall, and prevent cats or dogs from drinking out of the offering cups.

Mistake 4: Scraping scales or chopping up the grilled snakehead fish, or displaying plastic fruit. Offerings to the Wealth and Earth Deities must carry living Qi; keep the grilled snakehead fish whole from head to tail, and offer only fresh real blossoms and fruits.

Mistake 5: Burning heaps of paper effigies while neglecting business integrity. Classical wisdom teaches that Virtue anchors Fortune and Trustworthiness generates Wealth. Because Supreme Marshal Zhao Gongming embodies impartial commercial justice, the highest tribute you can offer is honest craftsmanship, fair pricing, reliable service and keeping every promise to customers and partners.

?Quick Questions

What solar date and Auspicious Hours correspond to the God of Wealth Festival in Dinh Mui 2027?

In 2027, the 10th Day of the First Lunar Month falls on Monday, February 15, 2027 (an At Suu Day with Sea-Gold Melodic Element and the Open Officer). The three best morning Auspicious Hours to light incense and consecrate gold are Dan (03:00 to 05:00), Mao (05:00 to 07:00) and Ti (09:00 to 11:00), with an afternoon window during Than (15:00 to 17:00).

If our home does not have a separate floor-level God of Wealth shrine, can we still pray and consecrate gold on the 10th?

Yes, absolutely. Households that do not run a retail shop and do not maintain a floor-level shrine simply arrange fresh flowers, five fruits, pure water and sweet sticky rice on their main household Tutelary Deity and Ancestral altar, reciting Variant 3 on this page. You may place your gold ring or red savings envelope on the main altar during the incense offering and transfer it to your safe afterward.

What if we do not buy new gold on the 10th of the 1st Lunar Month? What can we place on the shrine instead?

There is no need to stand in long queues if buying new gold is inconvenient. You may rinse and dry a piece of gold jewelry or bullion your family already owns, or prepare a red envelope containing crisp banknotes with auspicious ending digits (such as 68, 79, 86, 88 or 99), set it on a red plate before the incense bowl while reciting Variant 2, and place it inside your safe as your year-round seed of prosperity.

Are Buddhist or vegetarian families required to offer meat, roast pork or grilled fish on the God of Wealth Day?

No meat is ever required. Vietnamese folk liturgy honors purity of heart above all else. Vegetarian and Buddhist households may present an entirely plant-based festival tray featuring yellow chrysanthemums, five fruits, crimson gac sticky rice, sweet glutinous rice balls in ginger syrup, steamed blooming prosperity cakes (banh phat tai) and boiled sweet corn.

How should we handle the rice, salt, water, wine and food offerings after the prayer concludes?

To retain the festival's auspicious energy indoors: (1) Leave the three covered jars of Rice, Salt and Water undisturbed inside the shrine all year; (2) If you offered an extra dish of loose rice and salt, pour them back into your kitchen rice bin and salt jar (never throw them out into the street); (3) Sprinkle the 5 cups of water and wine lightly from the front doorstep inward toward the house or water indoor potted plants; (4) Share the savory and sweet dishes exclusively among family members or company staff.

Looking into the floor shrine from the front, which side is for the God of Wealth and which is for the Earth Deity?

Following the classical rule of Green Dragon on the Deity's Left, White Tiger on the Deity's Right, when you stand outside looking straight into the shrine: the God of Wealth sits on your LEFT, and the Earth Deity sits on your RIGHT, with the three jars of Rice, Salt and Water and the central incense bowl positioned between them.
